Define the surveillance question
Before selecting locations, we establish what the program needs to know: species presence, seasonal timing, habitat productivity, treatment response, complaint correlation, or a combination. Different questions produce different networks.
Review the geography and habitat
We work through maps, water features, land use, access constraints, and known breeding habitat with your staff. Local knowledge from inspectors is treated as primary source material.
Select and document monitoring locations
Each proposed site is recorded with coordinates, habitat description, equipment type, access notes, and the reason it was chosen. A site with no stated purpose is a site that will eventually be skipped.
Standardize field documentation
We design the inspection and collection forms so entries are comparable between inspectors and across seasons, including controlled vocabulary for habitat and condition fields.
Build the mapping and reporting layer
Activity, habitat, and inspection coverage are organized geographically so the program can see where it is monitoring, where it is not, and how conditions differ between areas.

01Do you install and operate the traps for us?
No. We design the surveillance structure, specify equipment and placement, and document the workflow. Field deployment and operation remain with your team or a licensed operator you contract separately.
02Can you work with the records we already have?
Yes. Existing logs, spreadsheets, and paper forms are usually the most useful starting point, even when they are inconsistent. Part of the work is establishing what can be carried forward and compared.
03How many monitoring sites should a program have?
There is no standard number. It depends on geography, habitat variability, target species, staffing, and the questions the program needs to answer. We would rather define fewer sites that are consistently monitored than a large network that is partially maintained.
04Is this a regulatory or environmental assessment?
No. This is operational consulting. It does not constitute a regulatory filing, environmental assessment, or public-health determination, and it does not replace guidance from your local authorities.
